Hoosier Daddy?
Over the past three years a group of church planters based in central Indiana have been launching new Anglican missions at a very exciting pace. When former Episcopal Priest, Rev. Tom Tirman stepped out from his Indiana ECUSA parish with the intention of taking a stand for biblical orthodoxy he may not have imagined just how that step was about to lead to another, and another, and another… But God clearly had a plan for Fr. Tom and the Hoosier State, and within a few short years five congregations were launched under his leadership and a staff of five clergy came alongside to provide leadership among what is now called St. Michael the Archangel Anglican Church. The newest members of the Heart of North America Regional Network of Churches, St. Michael is truly one ecclesial family of missions and fellowships with a single board of governance and a cadre of clergy who rotate among the congregations providing for the pastoral and worship needs of each. St. Michael’s clergy team serves congregations in Nashville, Anderson, Westfield, Greenfield, and Kokomo. But don’t expect that roster to last long, a new Brownsburg congregation is scheduled to launch December 6th of this year and the team already has spiritual eyes on Bloomington, South Bend, and Muncie. Fr. Tom talked about their affiliation with the AMiA in a recent correspondence…as the ACNA continues to form, many of the groups who came together to form it (like CANA and Uganda) will blend in completely. AMiA on the other hand will remain in its distinctive existence within it, like a Holy Order (remember the Jesuits in the Roman Church). And since AMiA identifies itself strongly with church planting, and since that is really all we do, we thought it was a good way to profess and preserve our DNA. In recognition of his apostolic guidance in Indiana, HONA leadership has asked Fr. Tom to serve as the Network Leader of the new St. Michael Network which will also include HONA congregations in Fort Wayne and Huntington, IN which are under the headship of Fr. Rick Leone. Fr. Tom was introduced to his new northeastern Indiana parish family by Bishop Loomis at confirmation services held earlier this month. The ministry team at St, Michael’s is: The Revs. Tom Tirman, Stephen Hicks, and Michael Henry, and the Rev. Dcn’s Tony Bender, Dan Conley, and P.T. Morgan. You can visit their profiles here. http://www.indianaanglican.com/staff.htm We welcome the entire staff of St. Michael’s to HONA.
